fetal monitoring while in labor?

Sunday, October 28th, 2007
liz C asked:

I recently expressed my wish to have as little intervention as possible while in labor to my Dr, including being able to walk, change position, etc. She said that until my water breaks I only need to be on a fetal monitor for 15min/ hr…which is fine with me. She also said that once my water breaks I need to be continually monitored b/c with no fluid the cord is more likely to slip out and cut off oxygen to the baby. My thought is if the babies head is engaged the cord can’t slip out!??! Any suggestions to tactfully approch this with the hospital staff should it become an issue.

Why has humanity never studied the real time fetal response to uterine orgasm. Jeff Schofield?

Saturday, October 27th, 2007
liambsden asked:

Let the fetus have its say regarding sex during pregnancy and in particular the fetal response to uterine orgasm. The contractions of delivery during birth cut off the blood supply and would suffocate the fetus if not spaced out. Uterine orgasm during pregnancy can last up to 30 minutes. The same physiology must exist as during birth with the cappillaries at the uterine-placental junction being clamped shut by the contracting uterine muscles. It is obvious the fetus survives, but what if repeated breath holding contests inutero lead to asthma etc. What if the reduced flow of cord blood leads to toxemia and anoxia as in a drowning victim? 5000 fetuses are aborted daily in America. If we can justify intruding on the fetal space with abortion, I pray the time has come that some brave researchers will use the high-tech fetal monitoring tests to let the fetus have its say. What are we so terrified of learning? Sex during pregnancy is such a common human experience, fear not I AM

Do those fetal heart rate monitors really work??

Thursday, October 25th, 2007
hootie asked:

I’ve never used one personally (well except for when they use one at my doctor’s appointments) but I have a friend that would like one and I want to get it for her. Has anyone else had experience with them and what brand? The ones I’m looking at cost about $40. I believe the brand was Angel Sounds or something like that. Any advice would be great! My friend has tried to get pregnant for 3 years now and the first time she did get pregnant she lost the baby around 8 weeks and she’s really nervous she’ll lose this one. I thought it might help her if she could listen to the heart beat whenever she wanted to. I couldn’t imagine losing a child… I would be heart broken so I want to help her out anyway I can but we live in different states. This is the only thing I could think of to help her out besides giving her encouraging words.
Valstupendo: Thanks for the warning. I’ll try to make sure she knows not to get carried away with it. I thought about getting one for myself the first time I was pregnant but I kept putting it off until I could feel the baby move pretty regular so I didn’t see the need to buy one. She’s 14.5 weeks pregnant and she can’t get really excited because she’s so worried she’ll lose this one too. I want her to be excited because it’s a wonderful time!! But I do understand your side of it and I really do thank you for the warning.

Fetal doppler monitor rental safety?

Saturday, October 13th, 2007
Casey asked:

I had a miscarriage in June and am now pregnant and 13 weeks pregnant. I recently rented a digital fetal monitor and love it because I can hear my baby’s heart beat and get the rate each day. After reading some things, I’m wondering if this is safe to use each day. Most of the literature out there says it is, but then people on here say it’s like a helicopter hoovering over the baby. Anyone know the truth about this? Thanks!

Fetal heartbeat monitors??

Thursday, October 4th, 2007
Cookie asked:

I’m pregnant and would like to purchase one. Is it safe to get a fetal heart monitor and use it at home? I saw one and I wanted to buy it but the nurse at the clinic said they might not be safe for the baby? Anyone has one and used it? what do you think?

Allergic to fetal monitor?

Thursday, October 4th, 2007
Naka asked:

At my clinic, I was put on the fetal monitor that checks the baby’s heartbeat and your contractions. When I got home, I noticed I had three red circles on my belly, like some kind of irritation. And when I returned for my next appointment a week later, I mentioned it to the nurse and she tried a different gel. But the same thing happpened! Does anyone know why I got that, or how to prevent it?

How often do you use your fetal heart monitor?

Thursday, October 4th, 2007
â™ Jackson is 10 months old!â™  asked:

I just recently got a fetal heart monitor (about 4 days ago) I found that I am becoming obsessed with listening to my baby’s heart beat. I listen to it at least twice a day. Is this normal? Ha ha…I’m 6 months, but I worry about him a lot and I want to make sure he is ok.
I listen to it to check what his heart rate is per minute and to make sure he isn’t under any stress. I am a diabetic, so it scares me and that’s why I tend to use it alot.
