Fetal heart monitor question?

Saturday, November 24th, 2007
Jennifer W asked:

Quick question. Has anyone heard the fetal heartbeat at 9 weeks pregnant with a fetal heart monitor from the dr office. I know with past pregnancies you have that done at 12 weeks but I am just curious as I have two kids and went through two terrible pregnancy issues and am scared for another miscarriage and am renting a fetal heart monitor and am now a little over 9 weeks and just wondering if anyone has heard it this early. The fetal heart monitor is the same one used in the OB doctors office not that cheap crap $30 one.
Thanks.
I know the babys heart beat starts around 5-6 weeks and I know that I am super paranoid, so I just need input.

Has anyone chosen not to have a fetal heart monitor during labour?

Friday, November 23rd, 2007
Pretty S asked:

I’ve read that the insertion of a fetal heart monitor during labour can cause the doctors and nurses to be overly sensitive to the baby’s natural variations in heartrate - and in turn increase the incidence of cesarian section - because they’re concerned that the baby is in distress.

I trust doctors and nurses. I don’t want to interfere in their work, but, I’d like to request that anything that isn’t necessary be excluded from my labour experience.

I’d like to have as natural a birth as possible in the hospital. I’m considering asking that the doctor refrain from using the fetal heart monitor - has anyone done this?

Thanks!

Can’t Tell the difference between my heartbeat and the fetal heartbeat. 17 Weeks Pregnant??

Saturday, November 17th, 2007
Nini asked:

I’m 17 weeks pregnant and I rented a doppler to monitor my baby’s heartbeat. The first couple of times I used the doppler I wasn’t able to hear anything…..and for the first time I heard a heart beat near my lower left abdomen. It didn’t sound fast enough. I moved the doppler to the top portion near my stomache and the heart beat rythum sound the same. Does anyone know how the fast the fetal heart beat should be?

Fetal monitors?

Saturday, November 10th, 2007
Noah’s Mommy. asked:

I’ve heard they work and then I’ve heard they don’t work. I bought one last night and I’m 23 weeks along. I put the monitor right where my little guy was moving but got nothing! Is there a certain brand that has worked for you guys? I’ve also heard that stethoscopes work as well, how far along do you need to be to use one? And where can I pick one up? Thanks!

I’m 9w5d pregnant, and I heard the heartbeat for the first time at 9w1d. I can’t hear it at all on the AngelSounds monitor. Has anyone heard it this early on an at-home monitor?
Sorry, I meant the first time that I heard it in the doctor’s office with their doppler was at 9w1d.

How Often Can you Use a fetal doppler?

Friday, November 2nd, 2007
karlene c asked:

I went and bought a fetal heart doppler / heart monitor from ebay. I have tested it and it works but how often can i use it in a week (not that i am going to use it weekly just as an example of how often i can use it) , i dont want to over use it because i dont want to hurt the baby. Has anyone else had experience with these heart monitors and how often you can use them ?
