Fetal heart rate varies?

Friday, April 25th, 2008
Tiffany asked:

Hey everyone…i just turned 38 weeks pregnant today! Yesturday my doc sent me to the hospital due to high blood pressure. Luckily after bed rest within an hr, my blood pressure went down. Anyway, they straped fetal heart rate monitors to my belly to monitor the baby’s heart beat. My baby boy’s heart rate was jumpin all over the place! It was anywhere between 130-160, mainly around 140 something. My question is, is that normal for the baby’s heart beat to jump all around and not to be set on one heart rate number. The nurse there that was taking care of me said that a baby’s heart rate that jumps around is good instead of one that stays the same. Is this true? Thanks!!
Well when he would move his heart rate would increase…but when i didn’t feel him moving around, his heart rate would still jump around…i wanted to know if this was normal!?

Can’t Tell the difference between my heartbeat and the fetal heartbeat. 17 Weeks Pregnant?

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008
Nini asked:

I’m 17 weeks pregnant and I rented a doppler to monitor my baby’s heartbeat. The first couple of times I used the doppler I wasn’t able to hear anything…..and for the first time I heard a heart beat near my lower left abdomen. It didn’t sound fast enough. I moved the doppler to the top portion near my stomache and the heart beat rythum sound the same. Does anyone know how the fast the fetal heart beat should be?

FDA warns Avoid Fetal “Keepsake” Images, Heartbeat Monitors. Now am a little worried. How many U/S did u have?

Sunday, April 20th, 2008
15 Weeks with Baby #1 asked:

My u/s was for finding out how far along in pregnancy I was and I was considering in the future to find out the sex of my baby and possibly get the 3d/4d us. However, after reading the study below and the FDA warning I think I will just find out the sex of my child when he or she is born. We don’t do baby showers (so not knowing won’t affect anything) we actually do a shower after the baby is born and they have names so its almost like introducing them to society.

how many US did you have?

My grandmother distrusts ultrasounds because she said that the same argument was given for xrays during her time so she thinks its a matter of time before US will also be regulated/

Anyone having to go in to have fetal heart rate monitors?

Friday, April 11th, 2008
Christi asked:

I am 30 weeks prego. On friday i had my ultrasound and when I went in yesterday because of back pain they said i am measuring 32 and the perinatologist has asked that i be monitored twice a week for the remainder of my pregnancy. I asked why and the dr said it was because of my history. I have had a few complications in the past. But since I’ve had 2 healthy preganacies. I just feel scared that maybe there not telling me something. So anyone else being monitored and if so why? Also could I be measuring 32 because of a bigger baby or could I be further along? Thanks everyone!
I am pretty sure it’s a non stress test. I’ve never had to do one before.
