Did internal fetal monitoring cause the bald spot on my baby’s head?

Monday, January 19th, 2009
E’s Mom asked:

Baby is 4 months old, has full head of hair EXCEPT in a small circular patch in back near the top of her head. The patch is only about 1-2 cm across and has no hair growing from it.

I had an internal fetal monitor during my labor, and the spot is about as big around as the wire coil they used for the monitor.

Anyone else have IFM and baby has a bald spot? Anyone have IFM and baby does NOT have a bald spot?
The spot is separate from where she has rubbed her head against bedding. There is actual hair growing where she rubs it off with movement, but the spot in question is small, perfectly round and has no growing hair.

Fetal Heart Monitor (How far along until I can hear anything?)?

Monday, January 19th, 2009
S.D. B asked:

I am 10 weeks pregnant with our first child, and tonight I bought a “Summer” Fetal Heart Monitoring Device (to hear the baby’s heartbeat). It says it probably won’t pick up any sound until midway through the second trimester, but I’m just curious… has anyone tried this particular product or one like it? How early were you able to hear anything? My hubby is going to pick up batteries on his way home in a few hours because I forgot them (of course!), but I am just dying to try this thing even though it’s still kinda early.
