Does anyone have any advice on preterm labor/ fetal fibrinogen tests?

Sunday, October 31st, 2010
Melissa asked:

hey everyone,
I would like to start out by giving you a brief history, I am currently 29 years old, first child, 29 weeks pregnant, non-smoker, healthy, don’t do any drugs or drink. I started 20 days ago with sporadic braxton hick contractions that gradually went to bh contractions every hour on the hour that gradually went into 2-3 an hour. I went to L & D where they put me on the fetal monitor and yes, in deed I was having that many bh. A fetal fibrinogen test was done then and it was negative. The doctor put me on semi bed rest, told me to put my feet up and try to relax and I started taking magnesium gluconate and terbutaline alternating every 4 hours. The majority of the contractions stopped.
The past 3 days, I have had menstral cramping, lower backaches, and my stomach has been off, but I chucked this up to part of the pregnancy. This leads me to today, I went in for a recheck appointment and sonogram. The good news, the baby is measuring 3 weeks ahead of schedule, he’s seems healthy, organs look good, lots of movement. The bad news, my cervix is slightly shorter, no dilation, another fetal fibrinogen test was done….this time it’s positive. I am now starting steriod injections and am on strict bed rest. I realize this just increases my chances of delivering my child dramatically, but what are my chances of delivering in the next week or two? I’m just worried about this situation, if there’s anyone who has any advice on this subject, just throw me a line and I will be greatly appreciative.

Using one of those fetal monitors? Mine always says between 145 and 155 times a minute. Is that to much? OR is my monitor right?

What is the speed of the heart wall?

Wednesday, October 27th, 2010
mn1998 asked:

Obstetricians use ultrasound to monitor fetal heartbeat.
If 5.0MHz ultrasound reflects off the moving heart wall with a 100Hz frequency shift, what is the speed of the heart wall? Hint: You have two shifts to consider.

Fetal Heartbeat Monitor? Do you recommend it?

Wednesday, October 13th, 2010
Samantha Due June 16 :-) asked:

I’m 12 weeks along and have had two ultrasounds, seen the heartbeat but not heard it, everything has been going well so far. I was considering buying a home Fetal Heartbeat Monitor, partly just for fun and partly for my own personal sanity and confirmations inbetween appointments. But they are pretty expensive and I want to make sure its worth it before running out and getting one. My question is: Did you get one? If you did was it really hard to use? When did you start using it? Was it worth buying? Why did you decide to get one?

Can high blood pressure cause a miscarrage?

Monday, October 11th, 2010
angel4nature asked:

I am 25 yrs old. Had two previous m/c before I had my son who is now four yrs old and he was two weeks late. But last week I found out that I probably had a missed miscarrage. I should have been 11-12 wks along but the sac was still empty in the ultra sound. Four days after that we got the test results that the HCG blood levels were going down. At one point my blood pressure was 140/86, two days before the empty sac u/s. I went to the ER for the blood pressure, but they just monitered the blood pressure and had me take a pregnancy test. Should they have done an ultra sound or fetal monitoring too….?

Did anybody else start experiencing decreased fetal movement?

Friday, October 1st, 2010
Jacquelyn asked:

@ 31 weeks?

I hit 31 weeks on Tuesday & from right around that time my sons activity level has plummeted. I was in tears this morning & wound up @ labor & delivery so I could get a piece of mind. They did a non-stress test & an ultrasound… he’s perfectly fine. They really didn’t have a reason as to why his movements have slowed down. I asked if it was because he is running out of room & she said they never really run out of room but it could be because he is getting bigger.

I’m just wondering if anybody else has experienced this so far from their due date? Did movement pick back up or did it stay decreased until birth?

I ordered a Hi-Bebe fetal heart monitor & should be getting it by Monday so hopefully that will keep me out of the hospital until I have him!
