Fetal non-stress test?

Wednesday, April 27th, 2011
l h asked:

Today I had to do a fetal non-stress test because I am a week overdue. The only monitor I had on me was the one for the baby’s heart rate. I had 2 contractions during the test. When the doctor came in, he said “Well you aren’t having any contractions.” How does the test monitor a contraction? And why did he say I wasn’t when I had 2? I am confused!!
No, I was just told to press a button when I felt the baby move.

How many of you had an intervention-free birth?

Monday, April 25th, 2011
pennypincher asked:

I think that is a clearer term than natural childbirth. I did have an episiotomy with my first one because of fetal distress and the midwife broke the water at 8 cm with my last birth. Other than that, I had no interventions: no IV, no electronic monitor, no epidural, and no pitocin. My baby never had the eye drops or the vitamin K shot either.

fetal heart monitor??

Sunday, April 24th, 2011
Heather Murray asked:

Ok so I got it today. I used it. Its confusing. I know what the heart sounds like. But I have to push kinda hard, and its hard to find the heart beat. When I do its on the opposite side of where I usually get my ultrasound done. Is this normal? I am 14 weeks

Can the hospital force you to have the electronic fetal monitor?

Friday, April 22nd, 2011
pennypincher asked:

What if you don’t want one because you don’t like the risks involved? Are you allowed to chose a fetascope? What about the pregnant patients bill of rights?
I had all my babies at a birth center because I heard the hospitals around here will not admit you unless you agree to the electronic monitor.
The electronic monitor is known to triple the c-sec rate, but it does not decrease the infant mortality rate.

I am 17 weeks pregnant with twins. When will my babies really start moving around?

Friday, April 15th, 2011
heidi asked:

I can feel them every once in a while, but it is by no means frequent. I have a fetal heart rate monitor and I listen to them daily, so I know that they are fine, but when will they be moving more? Thanks!!!

Could I sue this hospital? They’re telling me i’m not pregnant after they FOUND the fetal heartbeat?

Thursday, April 7th, 2011
asked:

I went to the hospital on Thursday night with boyfriend. They took me into the room to check my blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, and the babies heartbeat. They put the thing on my belly, searched around, and FOUND IT, or at least thats what she was saying… she said it was really strong and what not. So they put me into a hospital room and told me to pee in a cup, you know the usual. And then they sent someone up from labor and delivery to come and put me on the fetal heart monitor…. they took blood and ran labs. Then they had the nerve to come back and tell me my urine test came back negative… and they don’t know why they found the heartbeat and wouldn’t give me an ultrasound. So when they went to discharge me I got escorted off property and had my picture taken because “when you come here and say youre one with child, and your not… this is what happens”. I don’t know what to believe anymore.

How do you explain…
no period for 8 months
my belly getting huge
13 positive pregnancy tests (hpt’s)
finding the fetal heartbeat
movement in my belly
etc.

What’s the earliest you can hear the heartbeat with a monitor?

Thursday, April 7th, 2011
KAY asked:

I bought a fetal heart monitor during the 2nd trimester with my 1st pregnancy.

I have read you can hear it as early as 8 weeks, but I also read it’s 12 somewhere else.

Does anyone know which is true?

I will be 10 weeks at my next appt. and the doctor said we should be able to hear it then, but I think their monitor is probably a lot better than mine.

Thanks!
I bought an actual doppler and I spent a pretty penny on it.

It worked with my 1st as I said, but I must have been around 18 weeks when I bought it.
Grayson- Everyone told me I was silly for buying one that was so expensive. I bought it after I couldn’t feel my daughter move one day and I went into a total panic. Never had much of an issue after that. I don’t even think I blinked when I hit the “process order” button.

The good ones are pricy, but I still think it was the best investment I’ve ever made.
