Does the hospital monitor pick up Braxton Hicks?

Monday, June 20th, 2011
Cassidy E asked:

I went yesterday for high blood pressure and was hooked up to the stomach monitors, they monitor fetal heartbeat and the other bar monitors contractions. They showed me contracting every 2 minutes, and yes, it felt like the real thing. I came home because I am not dilating and had them all night. I woke up today and feel much better with only a few contractions here and there. Everyone is telling me they were Braxton Hicks, but because the monitor at the hospital picked them up, I was wondering if they were real or not? Any help?
By the way, I’m almost 38 weeks, so I know I can go at any time…

Baby has a fetal arrhythmia?

Sunday, June 19th, 2011
Tonia asked:

Hi everyone - I am almost 23 weeks pregnant and my baby was just diagnosed with a fetal arrhythmia - premature atrial contractions (PAC’s) to be exact. The perinatologist told me that it usually goes away before birth but they will monitor it every two weeks. Still, I am very worried! The heart itself looks excellent with no abnormalities.

Any information or stories regarding fetal PAC’s is greatly appreciated - Thanks!

Is my babys scar going to go away?

Saturday, June 11th, 2011
M0mmy_m0okie asked:

I was induced and before i went into labor they put a fetal monitor in the top of my baby head. When it healed it left a dent and her hair doesn’t grow on it so its very visible. Has any body else had this happen? And did the scar eventually go away. She’s almost 4 months.
Its kinda dented in a little and about the size of a pencil eraser

Fetal heart rate @ 34 weeks?

Saturday, June 11th, 2011
Tonia asked:

I’m currently 34 weeks 3 days pregnant and have a home fetal doppler to monitor the FHR. Although the FHR varies anywhere from the 120’s to the 150’s with accelerations even in the 160’s, I’ve noticed on a couple of occasions starting this past week that occasionally it seems to average around 117-121 with the range going as low as 110 for a few seconds. Is this too low for this stage of pregnancy? This is not occuring the majority of the time and as I said above, his heart rate changes throughout the day, in fact this morning it was at 146. Is it okay for the FHR to have a baseline from 117-121 with variations going down to 110 for a few seconds?
Thanks for the replies! I just can’t help but worry when his heart rate is lingering in the 110’s to 120 but I guess the rate is supposed to slow as the baby gets closer to term.

Im 36 weeks pregnant, and my doctor put me on a fetal monitor. Should I be worried?

Wednesday, June 8th, 2011
Lisa asked:

I used to have high blood pressure before I got pregnant. After getting pregnant my BP became normal and it has through out the whole pregnancy. At my last visit the doctor said that she was concerned about my issue before with my BP so she wanted to put me on a fetal monitor twice a week….

Should I be worried? Am I at high risk for a C-section?

a. discuss the benefits of ambulation in labor?

Thursday, June 2nd, 2011
jhewz asked:

cindy bell, a 20 y/o gravida 2, para 1 at 40 weeks gestation, presents to you in the birthing unit with contractions every 5-7mins. She is accompanied by her husband. Spontaneous rupture of membranes occured 2″ prior to admission. Cindy tells you that the field was colorless and clear. You orient Cindy and he family to the birthing room & perform a physical assessment, documenting the ff. data: VS are normal. A vaginal exam demonstrate the cervix is 75% effaced, 4cm dilated w/ a vertext at (-1) station in the LOP position. You place on an external fetal monitor. The FHR baseline is 140-147 w/ accelerations to 156bpm no accelerations are noted. Contractions are 5-6mins. apart, moderate intensity and lasting 40-50secs. Cindy states she would like to stay out of bed as long as possible bec. lying down seems to make the contractions more painful, especially in her back.
