The problem with fetal heart monitors is that the baby moves and it makes it harder to find a heartbeat. Think about how long it takes the Doc sometimes to locate Jr.'s heartbeat in office. Why do you need a heart monitor? It's great to be able to hear the baby's heartbeat I admit...but having trouble finding it can be quite distressing for no reason. As for being able to tell when the baby may have a problem...well it's not that great either unless you're hunting for the beat everyday. I heard my baby's heartbeat on a thursday (it was normal) and lost the baby at home 2 days later in my 2nd trimester. Even the Dr told me at the appt that hearing a heartbeat didn't mean that nothing was wrong. Sorry I can't be of help. Maybe call the hospital and see if they rent dopplers (what the Dr uses).
